The Common Kingfisher
A common kingfisher grips a weathered stump, its electric-blue back and burnt-orange breast blazing against a smooth grey background. A tiny bird that looks like a flying jewel. Fun fact: A kingfisher can spot a fish underwater and dive to catch it in under a second, and special adaptations in its eyes correct for the way water bends light — so what looks like a blurry target to us is pin-sharp to the bird.
