Lapwing, Hunkered Down

The same red-wattled lapwing, now hunched and puffed against a moody dark-green wash — softer, more intimate, almost a portrait of the bird resting. Fun fact: When a lapwing's ground nest is threatened, the parent will often feign a broken wing, stumbling away to lure the predator from the eggs before "miraculously" recovering and flying off.
